SANTOPRENE™
THERMOPLASTIC VULCANIZATE (TPV)

Santoprene™ Thermoplastic Vulcanizate (TPV) from Celanese is a blend of polypropylene and EPDM rubber. This blend results in a material that behaves like a rubber but processes like a thermoplastic. It possesses some of the best flex-fatigue resistance in the Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) family and desirable characteristics of vulcanized rubber, like flexibility and low compression set. Santoprene offers long-term durability and outstanding dimensional stability to your finished part. It also fits into a mid-range cost structure, yet provides a broad range of industrial and consumer product applications.

CAPABILITIES OF SHERWOOD INDUSTRIES

SHEET EXTRUSION CAPABILITIES

We can extrude sheet from 0.020” to 0.250” (0.6 mm to 6.3mm) thick. We offer widths between 6” to 36”. Our extruded sheet can be wound onto 3″ or 6″ PVC cores. Our machinery allows for flexibility on the amount of linear feet wound on each roll or a certain weight limit per roll. With four patterns and color matching capabilities, we can provide you with a customized product for your application.

SHERWOOD'S PRODUCTS SERVICE A WIDE VARIETY OF INDUSTRIES AND APPLICATIONS

AUTOMOTIVE

Many of the Santoprene™ Thermoplastic Vulcanizate (TPV) grades comply with the requirements from General Motors, Ford, and other automotive manufacturers. Santoprene TPV can be used for a variety of automotive parts including weather seals, tubing, grommets, plugs, and bumpers. It can be die cut to line cup holders, floor, and storage compartments. Santoprene TPV has outstanding sealing performance, resistance to extreme temperatures, and chemical exposure. It is a lightweight alternative to thermoset rubber materials in both static and semi-dynamic parts required for long term performance in automotive applications.

BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION

Santoprene TPV is used in weather seal and glazing seal applications for all types of windows including storefront, curtain walls, and skylights. It is used both commercially and residentially due to its low air and water infiltration ratings for the long life required of window and door systems.

Santoprene TPVs provide outstanding toughness and longevity for expansion joints in bridges, parking decks, and other items for road and rail construction.

It is well suited as long term seals, gaskets and other parts requiring resistance to flex fatigue, harsh temperatures, and chemicals.

Celanese has developed thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) for a range of demanding plumbing applications, including general seals and grommets, supply lines and riser tubes, deck plate seals, toilet flush valves and flapper valves, pullout sprayer hoses, diaphragms, and plumbing parts for potable water. It can be used in a variety of sealing applications.

HOUSEHOLD

Santoprene TPV can be used in washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, small appliances and in floor care. It can be used to make couplings, seals, hoses, gaskets, dampeners, knobs, controls and more. Santoprene TPV has excellent flex fatigue resistance.

ELECTRICAL

In wire and cable applications, Santoprene TPV provides flexibility and high performance in low-voltage insulation, jacketing, and electrical connectors. It can be used in both high and low voltage applications. They offer excellent flexibility, durability, flex fatigue resistance and resists staining in extreme temperatures.

ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS

Santoprene TPV offers excellent flexibility, chemical resistance and weatherability, making it a popular choice for a wide range of applications for energy storage system parts. It is excellent for piping, hoses, tubing, sealing, plugs, vibration dampening and insulation.
